Wait…what’s that? You’ve never heard of Alamo Beer? Let State & Allen give you the backstory!
A Legend in the Making
While Alamo Beer Company is relatively new to the market, Alamo beer itself dates back to the late 1880s. At the time, Lone Star Beer Company in San Antonio, Texas was the brewery of choice in the Texas Hill Country and they brewed an Alamo beer. Well along came the prohibition, and with it, the beer supply dried up. After the prohibition, beer started flowing again, but the Alamo branded beer never returned. That is until Eugene Simor brought it back.
In the 1990s, Simor moved to San Antonio and looked high and low for his favorite Texas beer. He loved Frio, Lone Star, and Yellow Rose – all brewed in San Antonio – but when they all closed, an idea came to mind. He decided to make his own beer and call it Alamo. Simor partnered with Real Ale Brewing to create a beer all his own. Distribution started small (he actually delivered it from the back of his wife’s minivan!), then grew to being carried to San Antonio’s HEB stores, and then to being distributed throughout the state of Texas by Ben E. Keith.
