The drink that was probably created by accident is now one of the most popular cocktails in America. It’s so popular in fact that the Moscow Mule was the most searched for cocktail on Google in 2015.

 

And it’s easy to see why. This refreshing little beverage has wormed its way into our affections with it’s mixture of sweet and tart. State & Allen loves the Moscow Mule so much that we’ve dedicated a whole night of Dallas drink specials to it!

Join us any Thursday – 7pm to close – to get any flavor of mule for just $3 a glass. Sure, you can get the mules any other day too, but on Thursdays we sweeten the deal even more. It’s the perfect start to the weekend! Start it a day early at State & Allen Kitchen + Bar.

Our menu mules are all made with Smirnoff Vodka. Smirnoff has been around since 1864, originally formulated in Russia for the Tsar (aka king of Russia). And if Smirnoff is good enough for kings, it’s good enough or us.

Your little fur ball may not be allowed at many restaurants, but at State & Allen, we allow your 4-legged best friend to join us on the patio anytime. In fact, we were the first patio in Dallas – let alone Uptown! - to allow dogs.  So the next time you’re looking for a Dallas happy hour spot and you’ve been missing your dog, bring them along!

We are home to the one and only Bloody Mary bar in Uptown.

That’s right, folks. No one in Uptown offers a Bloody Mary bar where you can customize and blend the perfect Bloody Mary for your tastebuds. Brunch is served every Saturday and Sunday from 10am – 3pm, so join us this week for a fabulous Dallas brunch and Bloody Mary.

We offer gluten free menu options.

State & Allen recognizes that more and more of our patrons are on specialty diets. We are frequently asked for gluten free menu options, and the answers is, “Yes, we have them!” Just ask your server. We also offer gluten free pizza crust for pizza lovers everywhere. P.S. it’s pretty darn tasty too.

Don't Miss The Nodding Donkey's 5th Annual Charity Golf Tournament!

The best sports bar in Dallas is hosting one of State & Allen's favorite events of the year – the 5th Annual Nodding Donkey Charity Golf Tournament, benefitting the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital!

Here’s what you need to know:

The event will take place on Friday, June 19, 2015 at the gorgeous Golf Club of Dallas (2200 West Red Bird Lane, Dallas, TX, 75232).  The tournament will tee off at 1pm, with our registration tent opening at noon. Upon arrival at noon, lunch will be served. Food and beverages will be available all day until 8pm, with dinner served at 6pm. We will play a 4-person scramble tournament, so grab a few friends and be prepared for a heck of a day of golf and fun, all for a great cause!

The entry fee for the Dallas charity golf tournament is $125, with the entry fee covering a round of golf, driving range access, cart for the day, food, and beverages. Do you own a business? Then consider being one of the event sponsors! For just $300, you’ll get your company’s logo on all of the event signage and at your sponsored hole. PLUS – 100% of your sponsorship money goes to the Scottish Rite Hospital!

A little about the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital…

Located in Dallas, the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital is world-renowned for treating children with orthopedic and neurological issues. A few of the conditions treated at the hospital are clubfoot, scoliosis, hip issues, limb length imbalances, dyslexia, and more. We are proud of our sister restaurant – the Nodding Donkey – for putting together such a great event that supports this phenomenal hospital!

On Tuesday, April 14, State & Allen Kitchen + Bar will be hosting a prix fix dinner in Dallas starring one of our favorite breweries – Lakewood Brewing Company.

The menu will be 5 courses, as follows:

  • Course 1: Pate Potstickers served with Lakewood’s Rock Ryder: Rock Ryder is a smooth American Rye Wheat that nearly everyone loves. Named for the cyclists who circle Dallas’s White Rock Lake, the beer has a dry finish, citrusy nose, and a touch of peppery rye. The perfect pairing for our potstickers!

 

  • Course 2: Carrot Curry Soup paired with the Hop Trapp brew: A Belgium style IPA, Hop Trapp is the perfect complex brew for the craft beer enthusiast and novice alike. Brewed with Trappit yeast, you’ll immediately sense the complexity of the floral hops and the bitter backbone this beer gives off.

 

  • Course 3: Organic Arugula Salad and Lakewood’s Till & Toil: Peppery arugula, topped with goat cheese, hazelnuts, and more, is balanced by Till & Toil, a fruity, crisp beer that is perfect for a Spring day on the patio.

 

  • Course 4: Beer “Can” Hen with Lakewood signature Lakewood Lager: The perfect pairing for any course, Lakewood Lager blends new and old – just like the Lakewood area of Dallas! It’s  a Vienna style lager that wins you over with its malty sweetness, bitter hops, and caramel finish.

 

  • Course 5: State & Allen’s homemade beignets served with the Lakewood Holiday Bonus: Cheers! It’s time to finish the meal with the perfect dessert beer! Holiday Bonus is a chocolately beer with hints of orange peel and spice. You’ll love the bold, smooth finish on this beer.

Meet State & Allen's Founder - Jonathan Calabrese

For over 10 years now, State & Allen Kitchen + Bar has been cranking out some of the best food in Uptown Dallas, Texas. State & Allen prides itself on making food that is not only delicious, but unique and fresh as well, all while maintaining a fun and relaxed atmosphere. It’s a vision that began with founder Jonathan Calabrese.

 In 1996, Jonathan Calabrese graduated from the University of North Texas with a Philosophy degree in hand, ready to begin a career in health care consulting. That stint only lasted two years before Jonathan realized that his true calling was food. He enrolled in the Art Institute of Dallas where he excelled, graduating as the valedictorian of his class.

Upon graduation, Jonathan accepted a position with The Grape Restaurant in Dallas, Texas. Under the instruction of Executive Chef Brian Luscher, Jonathan learned how to run a kitchen with precision. And before he knew it, he and his best friend began working on a venture of their own – Savory Bistro in the Lakewood area of Dallas, Texas. As Savory grew, so did the positive reviews. Encouraged by his efforts, Jonathan began adding more restaurants to his portfolio. Our beloved State & Allen Kitchen + Bar opened in 2004, followed by The Nodding Donkey Sports Bar – the best sports bar in Dallas – in 2010. And we can’t forget about the company that started it all – Savory Catering – Jonathan’s catering business that he opened while still in culinary school.

 Today, Jonathan spends most of his time behind the scenes, handling all operations aspects of the company and working closely with Executive Chef Rhett Dukes on creating menus with lasting appeal.
