The Great Debate: Which Texas Bourbon is Your Favorite?

State & Allen

We’re got pride the size of Texas when it comes to supporting our own.

Bourbon distilleries have been popping up across the great state of Texas, and we feel it’s our duty in life to try them all. Our team carefully curates a list of our favorites and then we offer those to you in our Dallas restaurant. So dare we ask… which Texas bourbon is your favorite? Here are a few we offer at State & Allen to jog your memory:

TX Bourbon

You can’t really go wrong with the award-winning flavors of TX Bourbon or TX Bourbon Whiskey. While almost every distillery in the country uses commercial yeast in their product, TX Bourbon uses a proprietary strain that they hand picked from a pecan in North Texas! On the rocks or neat, this bourbon delivers delicious undertones of caramel, cinnamon, and fruit.

Witherspoon

Deep in the heart of Old Town Lewisville, Texas you’ll find a distillery that specializes in the craft of small batch bourbon. Best enjoyed neat, this 100 proof whiskey packs a Texas-sized punch!

Balcones

The original Texas whiskey, Balcones distills all their whiskey on site, never reselling anyone else’s whiskey and never using barrels that are sourced from other distilleries. We carry 6 delicious Balcones whiskies, including the Balcones Rumble Cask Reserve, which is only released once every calendar year.

Herman Marshall

Herman Marshall is distilled right here in Dallas, Texas! We carry 3 different Herman Marshall Bourbons, including the Herman Marshall Rye – the best Texas rye! Here’s an insider tip: order this one with an ice cube, as it will open the flavor of the rye and release hints of vanilla.

Ready to sip on some delicious Texas bourbon? Visit us at State & Allen - your Uptown Dallas restaurant and bar - this week and tell us which one is your favorite!

Going Green: Gourmet Dallas Salads at State & Allen

State & Allen

Salads at State & Allen are anything but boring.

We realize salads have gotten a bad rap, so for that reason, our team has worked hard to put together a menu of salads that are unique, healthy, and oh so delicious – just the way a gourmet salad should be. Let us introduce you to some of our favorite gourmet Dallas salads, available for order at lunch or dinner:

Kale & Broccoli Salad

We’ll start with the newest addition to the salad menu. Packed with antioxidants, our kale and broccoli salad is loaded with carrots, cucumbers, fennel, dried blueberries, spiced almonds, goat cheese, and a homemade lemon-herb dressing. It really is a great way to eat your greens and enjoy them too!

Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna Salad

Here’s one you won’t find just anywhere: the Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna Salad. Fresh Ahi tuna is seared, then sliced and placed on a bed of Napa cabbage, carrots, radish, cucumbers, jicama, peanuts, and our miso peanut vinaigrette. So good and filling, you won’t even realize you “just ordered the salad.”

Mediterranean Salad

The perfect go-to Dallas lunch salad, we highly recommend the Mediterranean salad with olives, artichokes, red bell peppers, and cherry tomatoes drizzled in a feta vinaigrette. And bonus: you’ll receive warm pita slices and hummus on the side.

The Original Silver Bowl Salad

No list of State & Allen salads would be complete without mentioning the granddaddy of them all, and our most popular salad – the Silver Bowl Salad! Aptly named because of the silver bowl it comes in, this salad is chock-full of goodness. We start with a bed of romaine lettuce, then pile it high with spicy chicken, orange slices, grapes, red bell peppers, bacon bits, and two dressings – the Caesar and the vinaigrette. So good!!

Lunch is the perfect time to pop into our Dallas restaurant and bar and order one of our gourmet salads! See you this week at State & Allen for lunch, dinner, happy hour, or anytime!

Sandwich – Bison & Chorizo Grilled Cheese

This one has quickly become a new customer favorite and it’s easy to see why! The ooey gooey grilled cheese sandwich is taken up a notch with bison, chorizo, crispy onions, tomato, and Anaheim chile cheese for a little added kick. You have to taste it to believe how good it is!

Bistro Entrees – Seared Scallops

You don’t have to go to a fancy schmancy seafood restaurant to get top quality Dallas seafood! Our seared scallops are out of this world, served over a bed of cauliflower puree and accompanied by chorizo’d brussel sprouts.

Dessert – Homemade Spiced Baklava

End your meal with one of our favorites: our homemade, Dallas scratch kitchen, spiced baklava. Flaky layers of pastry are layered with pistachios and hazelnuts and drizzled with a thick, whiskey-honey syrup.

Why Does State & Allen Serve Free Range Eggs?

State & Allen

If you join us at State & Allen for our weekend brunch in Dallas, you’ll notice that our menu specifically states that all of our eggs are free range. Some might wonder why this matters, because, an egg is an egg right?

At State & Allen we believe in clean eating and producing the freshest, highest quality meals around. Our meals are prepared fresh in our scratch kitchen, with simple cooking methods that let the natural flavors shine through. In our efforts to select the best quality foods for our customers, we’ve chosen free range eggs, and here are a few reasons why:

1.  Higher Nutritional Content

While all eggs are considered complete proteins and are abundant in vitamins and minerals, free range eggs have even higher quantities of nutrients than their conventional counterparts. This is because what goes into the chicken matters. And if a chicken is happy and able to go out and roam, selecting its own food in the process, it produces better quality eggs.  Studies have shown free range eggs to have more Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Vitamin D and other nutrients than conventional eggs.

2.  Less Saturated Fat & Cholesterol

One recent study shows that free range eggs contain 1/3 less cholesterol and ¼ less saturated fat than conventional eggs! While cholesterol levels in eggs shouldn’t be alarming, it’s always nice to know that you can get a healthier, more nutrient egg with less of the stuff you don’t want.

3.  More Omega-3s

Omega-3 fatty acids are important to our body because our body needs them for heart health and so much more, but we can’t produce them ourselves. Studies show Omega-3s to be 2-4 times higher in free range eggs.

Join us for Dallas brunch this weekend at State & Allen, where you’ll be served nothing but the best: free range eggs!

Try any one of these 3 standout salads today and you’ll begin to change your view on a salad for dinner:

·     Warm Spinach & Chicken Paillard Salad: Fresh spinach leaves are just barely wilted, then topped with wild mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes, red peppers, purple-hulled peas, pine nuts, and juicy chicken. Sprinkled with a little goat cheese and a house Balsamic dressing, this salad is sure to take the chill off a cold January day.

·     Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna Salad: Looking for something with an Asian flare? Give the Ahi tuna salad a try. Napa cabbage, cucumbers, radish, jicama, and spiced peanuts are topped with seared Ahi tuna and drizzled with Miso Peanut Vinaigrette. It’s a show-stopping salad you won’t want to miss!

·     State & Allen’s Famous Silver Bowl Salad – “The Original:" It’s by far the most popular salad at State & Allen and it’s easy to see why. It’s chock full of goodness that will leave you full and satisfied! Spicy chicken, grapes, oranges, red bell peppers, and bacon bits are served on a bed of chopped romaine, then drizzled with TWO of our favorite dressings – Balsamic vinaigrette and Caesar. A must for anyone new to State & Allen!
