New Menu: What to Order at State & Allen

State & Allen

At State & Allen, healthy, sustainable food meets impeccable gourmet cooking for a meal you won’t soon forget! Regulars keep coming back for the Dallas drink specials, wine nights, fabulous patio, and scratch kitchen cooking.

Another big part of eating well? Eating food that’s in season. That’s why State & Allen Kitchen + Bar is committed to changing our menu seasonally. It’s not just about keeping the menu fresh, but it’s about preparing the best that the current season has to offer.

So what’s on the menu now? Here are a few favorites off of our brand new spring and summer menu at State & Allen:

Starters: Crispy Pork Belly Tostadas

A delicious way to start your meal, the crispy pork belly tostadas are topped with southwestern kimchi, peach chipotle jam, crema, and of course, tender slices of pork belly. You’ll love how the spices complement the meat and lend just a touch of heat.

Salad: Heirloom Tomato & Pasta Salad

Summer and pasta salads go hand-in-hand, and State & Allen’s new menu has one that is so filling it really could be an entrée. We start with a six-cheese pasta sacchettini and layer on capicola, walnuts, blue cheese, grilled corn, and finish with a drizzle of chervil-peppercorn vinegarette. So good, it’s like a summertime picnic in your mouth.

Entrée: Grilled Jerk Redfish

State & Allen is known for our impeccable meats, and this redfish is summery, light, and absolutely delicious! The grapefruit salsa verde on top is the perfect pairing for the fish and it’s served with sautéed broccolini and roasted sweet potatoes.

These are just a few of our new spring and summer menu options, perfect for dining al fresco in this beautiful weather! See you this week at State & Allen Kitchen + Bar, the best restaurant in Uptown Dallas!

The Benefits of Free Range Eggs – State & Allen Kitchen + Bar

State & Allen

If you’ve spent any time with us at State & Allen Kitchen + Bar, you know that sustainable, simple eating is a big part of our promise to you. We find that food just tastes better when it’s grown locally, when it’s harvested at the right times, and when it's good to the environment.

This thought process goes into each and every item we source, which is why all our eggs we use are free range eggs! That’s right – our eggs in a basket, omelets, scrambled eggs, and more are all free range eggs. In addition to being better for the environment, here are a few other benefits of free range eggs that we value here at State & Allen:

Higher Nutritional Value

While standardized labels for eggs can be tricky, in general, when an egg is labeled “free range,” it means that chicken was given ample time to roam and forage for food, collecting its own natural sources of food from its environment and taking it lots of natural sunlight. Research has shown that this method of raising chickens increases the essential vitamins and minerals found the in egg. A free range egg is shown to have more of Vitamins A and E, lower cholesterol levels, twice as much Omega-3 fatty acids, and less saturated fat that its conventional counterpart!

Better Taste

While this may be subjective, we believe that healthier eggs just taste better. Often you’ll notice that eggs from free range chickens are brighter in color than those grown with conventional methods. This is a reflection of the nutrition that went into the chicken, which in turn affects the flavor of the egg.

Environmentally Friendly: 4 Ways State & Allen Gives Back

State & Allen

Not only do we care about delicious, farm fresh food, but we care about preparing it in a way that is good for our environment. That means finding local, sustainable food sources whenever possible and incorporating little changes into the way we do business that make a big impact.

Here are just 4 of the unique ways State & Allen seeks to give back and support a better planet:

1.   Compostable Takeout Containers

Do you ever think about the impact those Styrofoam takeout containers have on the environment? At State & Allen, we use specialty containers from Ecotainer that have a plastic liner derived from plants, making it perfectly biodegradable. Oh – and those plastic takeout bags? We order those from Trellisearth.com and they completely decompose with no harm to the environment.

2.   Bring a Mug for Free Coffee

Every little bit helps, and that’s why we offer our guests the chance to get free coffee if they’ll simply bring their own mug for Sunday brunch. It reduces the amount of dishes we must clean, in turn, reducing our water consumption.

3.   Recycling

Our office staff recycles anything and everything they can and also uses recycled paper. In the same way, our kitchen staff recycles all of our cooking oil (think biodiesel!).

4.   Water is Optional

It might sound weird, but we don’t automatically provide water at your table when you are seated. Your server will ask if you would like water, and if so, we will gladly provide it. If not, then you’ve just helped us conserve a little more water and energy.

These are just a few of the many ways State & Allen Kitchen + Bar gives back to help create a better planet. In fact, we’ve been named one of the top green restaurants in Dallas, Texas and we are so proud of that accomplishment!
