Happy St. Patrick’s Day, Yall!


All this talk of wearing green, green beer, and pinching people has us seeing green!


And not just St. Patrick’s Day green. What about “good for the environment green?”


Did you know State & Allen Kitchen + Bar is one of the greenest restaurants in Dallas, Texas?!


In fact, State & Allen is the ONLY restaurant in Dallas to be a “Certified Green Restaurant” by the Green Restaurant Association, meaning we keep raising the bar in terms of what we can do to preserve our environment. Here are just a few ways State & Allen is pushing the envelope and providing green dining in Dallas:


·     Environmentally Friendly Paper Goods: No Styrofoam to-go boxes here! State & Allen uses Ecotainers, to-go boxes with plastic lining that is derived from plants, allowing the entire piece to be composted! We’ve also made the switch to plastic bags from Trellis Earth, also completely compostable, 100% biodegradable, and do not harm the environment in any way.

·     Recycling: You’d be surprised at all the things you can recycle! State & Allen recycles just about anything we can – plastic, cardboard, straws, office paper, etc. – to the tune of 17,000 lbs. of recycled products each MONTH!

·     The “Bring Your Mug” Policy: Want free coffee? Just bring in your own mug for Dallas’s best brunch at State & Allen, and you’ll receive free coffee and refills. Sometimes it’s the little things that create less waste for the environment.

·     Water is Precious: We understand that most restaurants automatically bring water to the table. At State & Allen, we don’t. Our goal is to waste less water at the restaurant and that includes foregoing the automatic glass of water. But don’t worry, if you’d like water, we will absolutely bring it to you!

5 Ways State & Allen is Promoting Green Dining in Dallas

State & Allen Kitchen + Bar is known for crazy good drink specials, an amazing Uptown Dallas patio, and delicious scratch kitchen dining. But did you know that we are also committed to protecting our environment?


State & Allen never wants to be “just another Dallas restaurant and bar.” We believe in giving back and in helping make this world a better place for us all. We are proud to say that over the years, we’ve been the recipient of various green dining awards, including the prestigious 2-Star Green Restaurant Award.


It’s the small things that add up, and here are a few of the simple things we are doing to go green:


1.    Compostable Paper Products


Have a to-go order at State & Allen or need a doggie bag? We offer to-go products you can feel good about. All of our to-go boxes are made by Ecotainer, a company that makes their containers with a plastic liner derived from plants; no Styrofoam here. And that bag that the box goes in….we get those from a company called Trellis Bioplastics. They are 100% biodegradable and will not harm the environment.


2.    Bring Your Own Mug. Get FREE Coffee!


Looking for a freebie? We want to encourage you to bring your own coffee mug in for Uptown’s best Sunday brunch, and we will give you a cup of joe for free! It’s coffee you can feel good about.


3.    Water is Optional


Most restaurants automatically bring water to the table when you are seated. A nice gesture, no doubt, but some may not want water. At State & Allen, we do it a little differently. If you’d like water, ask your server and we will gladly bring you a glass. And if not, we just helped conserve water by using less waste and less water and energy for cleaning the glass.


4.    We Recycle our Cooking Oil


Bet you didn’t know you could do that, did you? All of our cooking oil is recycled and then turned into other cool things like biodiesel.


5.    Recycle. Recycle. Recycle.


You may think recycling doesn’t matter or doesn’t add up, but at State & Allen we beg to differ. We recycle everything we can – plates, straws, napkins, cardboard, office paper, etc. And it adds up. We are proud to say that we recycle over 17,000 lbs of paper each month!
