Environmentally Friendly: 4 Ways State & Allen Gives Back

State & Allen

Not only do we care about delicious, farm fresh food, but we care about preparing it in a way that is good for our environment. That means finding local, sustainable food sources whenever possible and incorporating little changes into the way we do business that make a big impact.

Here are just 4 of the unique ways State & Allen seeks to give back and support a better planet:

1.   Compostable Takeout Containers

Do you ever think about the impact those Styrofoam takeout containers have on the environment? At State & Allen, we use specialty containers from Ecotainer that have a plastic liner derived from plants, making it perfectly biodegradable. Oh – and those plastic takeout bags? We order those from Trellisearth.com and they completely decompose with no harm to the environment.

2.   Bring a Mug for Free Coffee

Every little bit helps, and that’s why we offer our guests the chance to get free coffee if they’ll simply bring their own mug for Sunday brunch. It reduces the amount of dishes we must clean, in turn, reducing our water consumption.

3.   Recycling

Our office staff recycles anything and everything they can and also uses recycled paper. In the same way, our kitchen staff recycles all of our cooking oil (think biodiesel!).

4.   Water is Optional

It might sound weird, but we don’t automatically provide water at your table when you are seated. Your server will ask if you would like water, and if so, we will gladly provide it. If not, then you’ve just helped us conserve a little more water and energy.

These are just a few of the many ways State & Allen Kitchen + Bar gives back to help create a better planet. In fact, we’ve been named one of the top green restaurants in Dallas, Texas and we are so proud of that accomplishment!

Going Green: Gourmet Dallas Salads at State & Allen

State & Allen

Salads at State & Allen are anything but boring.

We realize salads have gotten a bad rap, so for that reason, our team has worked hard to put together a menu of salads that are unique, healthy, and oh so delicious – just the way a gourmet salad should be. Let us introduce you to some of our favorite gourmet Dallas salads, available for order at lunch or dinner:

Kale & Broccoli Salad

We’ll start with the newest addition to the salad menu. Packed with antioxidants, our kale and broccoli salad is loaded with carrots, cucumbers, fennel, dried blueberries, spiced almonds, goat cheese, and a homemade lemon-herb dressing. It really is a great way to eat your greens and enjoy them too!

Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna Salad

Here’s one you won’t find just anywhere: the Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna Salad. Fresh Ahi tuna is seared, then sliced and placed on a bed of Napa cabbage, carrots, radish, cucumbers, jicama, peanuts, and our miso peanut vinaigrette. So good and filling, you won’t even realize you “just ordered the salad.”

Mediterranean Salad

The perfect go-to Dallas lunch salad, we highly recommend the Mediterranean salad with olives, artichokes, red bell peppers, and cherry tomatoes drizzled in a feta vinaigrette. And bonus: you’ll receive warm pita slices and hummus on the side.

The Original Silver Bowl Salad

No list of State & Allen salads would be complete without mentioning the granddaddy of them all, and our most popular salad – the Silver Bowl Salad! Aptly named because of the silver bowl it comes in, this salad is chock-full of goodness. We start with a bed of romaine lettuce, then pile it high with spicy chicken, orange slices, grapes, red bell peppers, bacon bits, and two dressings – the Caesar and the vinaigrette. So good!!

Lunch is the perfect time to pop into our Dallas restaurant and bar and order one of our gourmet salads! See you this week at State & Allen for lunch, dinner, happy hour, or anytime!

What You Need to Know about Dallas’ Newest Restaurant: Ross & Hall

State & Allen

It’s not open yet, but we’ll spill the beans: State & Allen is opening a sister restaurant in the Deep Ellum/Downtown Dallas area.

Get ready folks because Ross & Hall is coming this Fall, and we hope you love the concept as much as we do! Here are a few things you need to know about Dallas’ newest restaurant:

Dallas Scratch Kitchen & Beer Garden

While State & Allen has the Dallas scratch kitchen and craft cocktails down to an art, Ross & Hall will take that a step further by offering a full beer garden. That’s right – everything from impeccable craft beers from the likes of Lakewood Brewing Co. to the everyday mainstays like Miller Lite will be on tap. Your favorite brews and plenty of new ones to try – all ice cold and ready to be enjoyed. But know that Ross & Hall isn’t all beer. We’ll have a full menu of carefully chosen wine, bourbon, and other spirits as well.

New Restaurant. New Menu.

Don’t just assume that this is State & Allen 2.0. While we’ll definitely be bringing the best of State & Allen to Dallas’ newest restaurant, we’ll also be customizing the menu to the palette of the area. Expect to see new entrees on the menu, and we’ll continue to tweak that menu as the restaurant opens and feedback is given. Ross & Hall may be a mere 3 miles from State & Allen, but we recognize that this is a different area and we want you to call it your own!

Green Initiatives are a Priority.

As with State & Allen and Social Pie, the owners of Ross & Hall value our environment. State & Allen has gone through rigorous steps to be awarded as one of the greenest restaurants in Dallas, and you can expect that Ross & Hall will be no exception. It’s the little things that add up and make a difference.

Stay tuned for more information to come on opening dates for Ross & Hall! If you or anyone else you know are interested in applying to work at Ross & Hall, email us at rosshall@calwink.com.

5 Little Known Facts about Grey Goose Vodka - State & Allen

State & Allen

Grey Goose vodka is one of our favorite spirits here at State & Allen. We like it so much that we even dedicated an entire cocktail menu to Grey Goose mixology, a menu our bartenders carefully curated to enhance the flavors in Grey Goose itself.

In the world of premium vodka, Grey Goose is known as ultra-premium. But do you know much more than that? Let State & Allen fill you in on a few secrets of the Grey Goose brand. (Feel free to use this knowledge to impress your friends.)

1.  100% Produced in France – for Americans

Grey Goose has only been on the market since 1997 when an American named Sidney Frank had an idea for a high-end vodka brand. He wanted Americans to see his vodka as ultra-premium; therefore, he set up all operations for the brand in France – a place Americans see as affluent and luxurious. To this day, each and every bottle of Grey Goose is produced in France, and so are all of the ingredients and packaging.

2.  French Maitre de Chai, Francois Thibault, Runs the Show

Don’t be fooled. Grey Goose isn’t a faux French company. The cellar master, Francois Thibault, earned his stripes making Cognac in France. When he came on board at Grey Goose, he designed the entire production process, all done the French way for authenticity you can taste.

3.  All the Grey Goose in the World is Produced by 20 People

The operation in La Vallee de l’Oise is small, with about 20 employees total! All the better for tasting, as each batch of Grey Goose is taste tested before it ever leaves the facility. Employees take turns in the tasting room, giving their seal of approval. Sample premium vodka all day? Where do we sign up?!

4.  Wheat Based for a Smoother Texture

There are many different fermented materials that could be used in vodka – potatoes, barley, rye, grapes, etc. Grey Goose chooses to use wheat sourced from France’s breadbasket region. The wheat sown is soft winter wheat, and Grey Goose argues that their vodka has a softer, smoother texture given the use of wheat vs. other fermented grains.

5.  No Artificial Flavors

Did you know that even the flavored Grey Goose vodkas use real fruit juice to create the flavors? Not to mention, all of that fruit – except the oranges from Florida – come from France. Would you expect anything less?

All this talk of Grey Goose vodka has us in the mood for a cocktail! Join us this week at State & Allen - the best bar in Uptown Dallas - and ask for our Grey Goose Mixology menu!
