We are doing our best to create a positive impact on the environment here at State & Allen—from using compostable and recyclable "Ecotainer" takeout containers, to reducing waste and becoming more energy-efficient, to participating in ecological projects, causes, and events.

State & Allen Offers Compostable Takeout Containers
Another important move that we've made has to do with our paper products. We use recycled paper and supplies in our office, and, on the customer side, we've started buying Ecotainer products. Unlike traditional packaging, Ecotainers use a plastic lining made from plants. All products are compostable. Our plastic bags come from Trellisearth.com, and they are 100% biodegradable and will not harm the environment when they decompose. They're made with natural bioplastic polymers.

No, we're not being stingy -- we're being green! We don't want to waste a drop, so our staff asks if you'd like water with your meal. This not only saves water -- but saves on energy used to make ice and wash your glass.
State & Allen Wins 1st Annual Mayor's Environmental Excellence Award
The MEEA “recognizes those in our community who are at the forefront of environmental stewardship and to recognize those who are thinking beyond today—beyond the quick-fix. The Mayor will be recognizing those who place thinking of the long term health and welfare of our city, our region and, most importantly, our children before their own needs.” The 2008 award was given to Angela Calabrese here at State & Allen for her environmental efforts on behalf of our restaurant... congratulations, Angela!
State & Allen Wins the Mayor's 2nd Annual Environmental Excellence Award for Small Businesses
State & Allen is setting the standard for environmental responsibility for restaurants and small businesses. We are the only Dallas restaurant to be a “Certified Green Restaurant” by the Green Restaurant Association and must follow very stringent guidelines to uphold their certification and continue setting the pace.
In 2009, we recycled 67,604 TONS of materials. We worked cooperatively with Stonewall Garden providing compost from their vegetable scraps in exchange for fresh vegetables. And, most importantly, we are continuing to improve our operations and community efforts to promote sustainability.
State & Allen is Participating in Earth Hour
On Earth Hour hundreds of millions of people around the world will come together to call for action on climate change by doing something quite simple—turning off their lights for one hour. And yet, at State & Allen Lounge, they feel us. Like, they really feel us... There's enough fruit and veg we feel like we're diet-right, and enough meat we can grunt a bit and protein up. Plus, since State & Allen is all up on the green scene, we can get that silver bowl in a corn-derivative biodegradable to-go container if we need lunch on the fly...
Stonewall Gardens is a volunteer-operated non-profit organization that supports the learning garden at Stonewall Jackson Elementary. The Garden is a 20,000 square foot outdoor laboratory where students tend crops, study the ecosystem, and conduct scientific experiments using a hands-on approach in order to enrich their understanding of science and strengthen their connection to nature.
